I'm planning on buying a bass guitar, will a headphone amp be okay?
I can't afford an amp. I already have a good pair of Sennheisers, can I just buy a headphone amp and use that rather than buy an actual bass amp? If I can, can you recommend any good headphone amps?
i've been playing bass for about two years and trust me you can find a cheap amp. don't buy new if you're just starting out. go to your local guitar store or a big chain one like guitar center and look through their used section. for a practice amp i'd say you can find a good one for under $100 new and half that or less used. i just bought a warwick blue cab 15.1 for $90. it's the perfect practice amp and they have them even cheaper used.
i'd suggest warwick, peavy, or acoustic brands, but you can sometimes find really cheap amps in names not known for bass amps like epiphone, or fender. try for a 15W or less with about an 8 inch speaker or less. this will keep it cheap and easy to move around. i don't know your price range, but i know they're out there for well under $100 it just takes some time to find the perfect deal. good luck
P.S. or you could always borrow a guitar or bass amp from a friend. i played my bass through a guitar amp for an entire year. it doesn't sound great, but you can hear it and if you get the amp to borrow for free from a friend it gives you more time to save up for a better bass amp
