How do you preamp a guitar amp?
I have an ADA MP-1 preamp that I want to run through a 2X12 combo amp. I don't want to go straight into the main guitar input of the combo, because then I'd have 2 preamps (the ADA plus the one in the amp itself). So I plugged to ADA output into the effects return of the combo amp (to bypass the built-in preamp in the combo). But when I turned the amp on (with all the volumes turned completely off), the amp started howling loudly, out of control. Again, all volumes - guitar, amp, preamp - were turned all the way down. What am I doing wrong? I can plug the preamp straight into the guitar input of the amp and it doesn't do this, but again, I want to go into the effects return of the amp to bypass the amp's built-in preamp.

NOTE: My MP-1 doesn't have the little switch on top. It may be an older model.....
You need to check to make sure the ADA is outputting an instrument level signal. There should be a switch on the top. You probably have it set to line level right now and it's overloading the combo.
