What kind of 1/4" cable do I need to connect my footswitch?
I have a Crate guitar amplifier with a footswitch. The footswitch has three buttons on it -- two to select between gain channels, and a third to add effects.
The footswitch uses two 1/4" cables to connect back into the amp. The 3rd buttons (effects) uses a simple mono cable I've discovered, but when I plug in a mono cable for the first two buttons (gain), only the first of the two buttons works -- the middle button does nothing.
This leads me to believe that I need a stereo cable to use both of them, right?
What I'm also wondering is if that cable should be a speaker cable or an instrument cable (or if it matters). I saw a cable for a good price on eBay which described itself as a "headphone cable". Are headphone cables different than the other two? Would one of those work...?
A stereo or TRS (tip, ring, sleeve) cable is probably what you need. You can check Crates website and recommendations for it, but that is typical of pedals with more than one button. It doesn't matter what cable you get (instrument, headphone, etc). There is no amplified signal going through the pedal and it won't make a difference if its shielded or not.
