Can i connect my Bose Jewel Cube speakers to a Home Cinema Amplifier?
I am interested in buying the new Onkyo TX-SR608 Amp to support 3D from my Sony BDP-S570 Blu-ray player. Is this possible particularly the connection of the acoustimass module and what cabling do i need?
Well, this all depends on which Bose system you have.
If you have the Acoustimass 15 or one of those series, then it's easy to connect to your Onkyo receiver.
If you have one of Bose's Lifestyle series like the Lifestyle 48, then it'll be harder.
If your Bose system still works well, then sell it.
Bose HTIB systems are NOT upgradable and NOT compatible with any other equipment. This way, Bose keeps you coming back to get essentially the same equipment with a few upgrades only. Silly if you think about it, but this is the case with many of the HTIB systems out there. I'd never suggest anyone to buy HTIB's unless space is a high premium... but anyone can fit a receiver box-hide it somewhere.
Lets put it this way, If you can fit a subwoofer somewhere... the receiver is not that bad.
And I know everyone loves the small cube speakers - or other smallish speakers, but the truth of the matter is that with speakers, you need the enclosure volume for proper acoustic resonances that give you that full spectrum/ accurate sound quality.
None of Bose products give you this accurate sound. Ditch them... unless you like it THAT much ...
Personally, I have a Pioneer 7.1 receiver with the Klipsch Reference series bookshelves. While they are awesome, and I'd recommend it, there are other options as well.

They are sold in a pair... passive speakers that hook up to your receiver... Audioengine also makes a matching 8" powered subwoofer.
the AP4 bookshelves are made with choice of MDF or Solid Bamboo cabinets, Kevlar woofers, Silk Dome tweeters and front ported to be wall mounted without troubles.
I would have got these AP4 speakers if they were available at the time of my system purchase.
Lets look at Bose HTIB speakers for a sec...and compare to Audioengine Ap4 / S8 specs.
-Enclosure for satellites: 1 layer ABS plastic with a fabric or metal grill front
-Enclosure for Acoustimass Bass module: LDF [low density fiberboard]-which is the same as the cheap IKEA furniture- OK for furniture, but speakers??-not so good... but cheap!
-Satellite drivers: 2" or smaller [depending on model] untreated paper woofers that handle the Highs,Mids,lows AT THE SAME TIME [and NO TWEETERS at all!!!!omg!!!]
-Acoustimass Bass module drivers: a series of 2 or three 5.25" paper woofers! most other systems use 8-15" woofers... These 5.25" woofers give off a boomy, bloated, overboosted mid-bass --- but insufficient for the lower bass spectrum.
Also, *** because the satellite 2" drivers are no very good for the lower mids* - these lower mids are either missing - or sent to the Bass module... : SO you hear voices coming from the Bass module box! --- this is bad... cuz localization happens and your vocals will sound BLOATED, CHESTY, SYNTHETIC.
So why did you buy bose? - same reason why I did years ago.
::: They have great marketing/advertising- millions of dollars on Magazine ads, TV ads, Google-web search budgets.... etc.
They market their name very well, then put ASTRONOMICAL MSRP$ tags on their mediocre products: and in this day and age, this is instant success. They sell garbage like hotcakes.
Currently, they are getting lots of backlash. The Web-internet-infotech is exposing their garbage practices. Just Google "Bose Truths" --- you'll get massive amounts of dissatisfied customers / audio enthusiasts that tell it all.
